A young woman from Nairobi who identified herself as Blessings on TikTok has caused mixed reactions online after sharing a very emotional story about her home life.
She used her platform to call out parents who take too much alcohol, saying it often leaves them in shameful situations and affects the whole family. Her message quickly spread on social media, attracting both support and criticism from Kenyans.
According to Blessings, she currently lives at home with her father because her mother is working in Saudi Arabia as a house help. She explained that life at home has not been easy since she is the only one staying with her father.
She said the responsibility of taking care of him has fallen on her shoulders, especially when he drinks heavily.
She went on to say that her father often comes home drunk and in dirty clothes. In her narration, she explained that she is sometimes forced to help him by changing his clothes and making sure he is comfortable before he sleeps.
She added that this situation happens repeatedly, making her daily life very stressful and emotionally draining.
Blessings also said that she ends up washing his clothes every day because of the condition he comes home in. She noted that if her father was not taking alcohol excessively, she would not be going through such experiences.
Her story was meant to highlight the impact of alcohol abuse in families and how it can affect children living in the same home.
However, many Kenyans online reacted with concern and discomfort, saying the situation is not appropriate for a daughter. Others sympathized with her, saying she may have no choice given her circumstances.
The story has sparked a wider debate about alcoholism, family responsibility, and boundaries in caregiving at home.
