Shock as Photo of Kenyan Nurse Arrested Abroad Over Alleged Abuse of Disabled Female Patient Emerges; Set to Face Trial

Photos of a Kenyan nurse arrested in the United States over allegations of sexual assault against a disabled patient have circulated widely online, sparking heated debate among Kenyans both at home and abroad.

The nurse, identified as Abedinecho Kyalo Katue, was arrested in Orlando after police accused him of sexually assaulting a female patient who had undergone an amputation and was confined to a hospital bed.

According to investigators, the 46-year-old nurse allegedly inappropriately touched the patient while she was receiving care at a medical facility.

Authorities say that after the alleged incident, Katue left the hospital in what appeared to be an attempt to evade arrest before he was later apprehended by police.

He is currently being held at Orange County Jail without bond as the case proceeds through the court system.

The incident has also triggered an online fundraising appeal to help the nurse secure legal representation.

A Kenyan woman based in the United States, Naomi Wairimu, called on members of the Kenyan diaspora to contribute towards raising funds for legal fees.

The appeal, shared on a diaspora social platform, stated that Kenyans were attempting to raise $5,000 to hire a lawyer for the accused.

Wairimu further argued that, in her opinion, the case could be successfully defended if proper legal support is provided, urging the community to contribute.

However, the fundraising effort has sparked mixed reactions online, with some questioning why financial support should be extended to a suspect facing such serious allegations.

Police in Orlando have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the case will proceed through the court system, where the accused will have the opportunity to respond to the charges.
