A bar in Kisii County turned into a scene of chaos on Saturday night after a police officer allegedly shot a man identified as Okeyo Moses during a confrontation inside the establishment.
According to reports, the officer drew his pistol during a heated argument and shot Okeyo at close range while he was seated inside the bar.
Eyewitnesses said the victim had been drinking with a friend when the officer entered and began questioning him, leading to a dispute that quickly escalated.
One witness described the incident, saying the man was shot in the head and died instantly, leaving patrons in shock and panic.
Moments after the shooting, anger erupted among locals who turned on the officer. The crowd reportedly dragged him outside the bar and attacked him with stones in retaliation for the killing.
The situation grew tense before officers from the National Police Service arrived and intervened, rescuing the officer from the mob and restoring order.
Authorities confirmed that the officer sustained injuries during the attack and was rushed to hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Investigations into the incident have been launched, and disciplinary and legal processes are expected to follow.
A senior police official stated that the matter is being treated seriously, adding that due process will be followed as investigations continue.
