Authorities in Machakos County are investigating the killing of a 25-year-old housemaid whose body was discovered concealed inside a grocery store in the Whistling Moran area of Athi River.
The deceased, identified as Precious Kanari, had been reported missing on Monday, before her body was recovered two days later inside the shop where her boyfriend worked as a caretaker.
According to police and witnesses, the shop owners had left the store under the supervision of an attendant. When they returned, they found the premises in disarray, which raised concerns.
Upon inspection, they uncovered the shocking scene.
Police said the body had been hidden in a shelf and added that Kanari was a house help of a neighbour and had reportedly visited the caretaker, who was her boyfriend, before she was killed.
Investigators noted that the body had stab wounds to the chest. Officers also recovered two blood-stained knives believed to have been used in the attack.
The main suspect, the shop attendant and caretaker, remains missing, prompting a police manhunt.
The body was transported to the mortuary for a postmortem examination as detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death and search for the suspect.
The case has left residents in shock, with calls for justice as investigations continue.
