A senior officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has appeared in court over the killing of his wife in a case that has shocked residents of Kasarani, in Nairobi County.
Daniel Mburu Macharia, who works with the Anti-Narcotic Unit, was presented before Makadara Law Courts Principal Magistrate Jane Mbati after he surrendered to police at Naivasha Police Station.
Investigators believe he turned himself in after his photographs were widely circulated on social media and in the media. Inspector Wesley Terer of DCI Kasarani told the court that the officer is the main suspect in the murder of his wife, Florence Nyagah.
Terer informed the court that the deceased succumbed to stab wounds caused by a sharp object, according to post-mortem results conducted on March 2, 2026, at Kenyatta National Hospital.
The 43-year-old woman was found dead in her house along Lumumba Drive on March 1. Police said she was lying in a pool of blood in the living room with visible injuries.Investigators told the court that Macharia was the last person seen with her on February 27.
According to the affidavit, preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased may have been killed between February 27 and March 1, 2026.
Family members said the couple had argued earlier that day over alleged cheating issues.
During the dispute, the deceased called a witness via WhatsApp and asked her to come help resolve the matter.
The suspect reportedly told the witness they would settle the issue peacefully.
Police later recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack and noted signs of a struggle inside the house.
Inspector Terer further told the court that after the incident, the suspect fled to an unknown location and switched off his phone.
The court allowed detectives to detain him at Kasarani Police Station for 14 days to allow further investigations.
