A Kenyan woman identified as Wanjiru has opened up about a painful experience she went through while working as a house help in Russia.
She said she had traveled abroad with hopes of improving her life and supporting her family, but things did not turn out as expected.
According to her, when she arrived in Russia, she discovered that the job she had been promised was no longer available. Instead, she was given different duties that she had not agreed to.
When she questioned her employer, she claims he turned violent and assaulted her while his three sons recorded the incident.
Wanjiru said she was later locked inside a dark room for four days after the abuse.
She further revealed that the video of the incident later spread widely on social media.
Sadly, she said her mother saw the clip and was so distressed that she took her own life.
Wanjiru has now warned other Kenyan women planning to work abroad to be cautious. She advised them to carefully check job offers and ensure their safety before traveling.
Her story highlights the dangers some people face while seeking jobs in foreign countries and the need for better protection for workers abroad.
