Speaking in an interview with The Nation, a 26-year-old woman broke down in tears as she accused her stepmother and other family members of allegedly paying her KSh 200 to falsely tell the public that her biological father had defiled and threatened to kill her.
In the emotional interview, the woman claimed that she was once driven by money and would do anything to get it.
She further alleged that during a family dispute, her stepmother, grandmother, and her father’s brother influenced her actions.
“I was paid 200 shillings to just say my father has defiled me. At the time, I was broke and I couldn’t wait. I went to court and said what I was told to say, and now my father has been in prison for more than 17 years,” she said.
She added that she did not fully understand the consequences of her actions at the time, saying she was still a minor when the incident happened. She now says she is praying for her father’s release after what she describes as a long imprisonment.
“My mother and grandmother are also regretting what happened. My mother still loves my father, and we are praying for his sentence to end so he can return home and continue with life,” she added.
