A daycare centre in Kitengela has been closed and its owner arrested as police investigate the mysterious death of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl.
The child, identified as Joy Otieno, had been dropped off at Blessed Daycare earlier in the day before the tragic incident occurred.
According to her parents, they later received a call from the daycare owner saying the child had allegedly choked on porridge and was rushed to Kitengela Level Four Hospital.
However, when the family arrived at the hospital, they were shocked to learn that their daughter’s body had already been moved to the mortuary.
Medical records indicated that the child was brought in lifeless.
Joy’s father, Nebert Otieno, said he noticed disturbing details, including wet clothes, a swollen stomach, and blood stains on the child’s face, raising questions about what really happened before her death.
A postmortem conducted at Kitengela Sub-County Hospital later revealed that the child died from blunt force trauma to the head, which caused bleeding in the brain.
The examination also found food particles in her lungs, an unusual finding that experts say could indicate distress or possible suffocation before death.
Following the report, police arrested the daycare owner, who is currently being held at Kitengela Police Station as investigations continue. The daycare has also been shut down pending further inquiries.
The incident has sparked anger among residents, with many calling for stricter regulation and monitoring of daycare centres to ensure child safety.
As investigations continue, the family is demanding justice and answers over the circumstances surrounding the young girl’s death.
