Drama was witnessed on Saturday evening in Githurai after a senior police officer allegedly attacked a man during a public event.
According to residents, the situation started when the officer found the man dancing with his wife as people gathered to celebrate and enjoy music in the area.
Reports indicate that the man, who is said to be from the Luhya community, was promoting unga ya Pembe while dancing to music to attract customers.
Witnesses say the woman, who was later identified as the officer’s wife, joined him in the dance, which seemed harmless at first.
The atmosphere was lively, with many people watching and cheering. However, things quickly turned chaotic when the police officer arrived at the scene.
Eyewitnesses claim that the officer became very angry after seeing the two dancing together. In the confusion that followed, the officer allegedly shot the man in the leg.
It is further claimed that he went on to break the man’s arms and the other leg in a violent confrontation that shocked many people present.
Residents also allege that the officer forcefully ordered his wife to get into his vehicle while still in an angry state.
Meanwhile, the injured man was reportedly handcuffed and placed into a separate police vehicle before being taken to a nearby police station.
The incident has caused anger among local residents, who gathered in large numbers to protest and defend the injured man.
Many said that the man was simply doing his job and entertaining people, and that he did not know the woman was married to the officer. They have called for investigations into the matter and justice for the victim.
