Succession Battle Looms in Westlands as Tim Wanyonyi Eyes Bungoma Politics

As Tim Wanyonyi shifts his political focus to Bungoma County, a fierce succession contest is already taking shape in Westlands Constituency.

Wanyonyi, widely regarded as one of the top-performing legislators in the country, recently announced that he will not seek re-election as Westlands MP in 2027. His decision has sparked what is shaping up to be one of the most competitive political battles in Nairobi.

Several aspirants have expressed interest in the seat, including MCA Alvin Palapala and Advocate Nelson Havi, both positioning themselves as credible successors. There is also speculation that a son of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi could join the race.

However, one name increasingly gaining attention is Benard Mwonyonyo. Currently serving as the Constituency Manager under Wanyonyi, Mwonyonyo has played a behind-the-scenes role in managing constituency affairs and supporting development initiatives.

During the last general election cycle, Mwonyonyo served as Head of Secretariat in Wanyonyi’s gubernatorial campaign, helping coordinate strategy and mobilization efforts across Nairobi.

His supporters describe him as a strategic organizer with deep knowledge of the constituency’s political landscape.

Mwonyonyo has now declared his intention to step into the limelight and vie for the seat, arguing that his close working relationship with Wanyonyi positions him well to continue the outgoing MP’s development agenda.

As the 2027 race gradually takes shape, Westlands is poised for a heated political showdown, with multiple contenders seeking to inherit one of Nairobi’s most high-profile constituencies.
