Police in Vihiga County have launched a manhunt for three suspected robbers who fatally shot a 44-year-old woman during a violent robbery in Luanda.
The victim, Beverline Afwande, operated an Mpesa shop in the area. She was attacked while riding home on a motorcycle after closing her business for the day.
According to witnesses, another motorcycle carrying three men intercepted them along the way. The attackers reportedly blocked the road and demanded valuables.
During the confrontation, one of the assailants shot Afwande in the chest at close range before grabbing a bag believed to contain cash from Mpesa transactions and daily sales.
She was rushed to Coptic Mission Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police officers who responded to the scene recovered a spent cartridge, which has since been taken for ballistic analysis.
Authorities have intensified investigations and are appealing to members of the public to share any information that may help track down the suspects.
The tragic incident has heightened concerns over insecurity in Luanda and its surrounding areas.
Local leaders and residents are now calling for increased police patrols and tougher measures to curb rising cases of violent robberies targeting small business operators.
