Mystery surrounds the brutal murder of Kenyatta University Teaching Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) employee Andrew Nyaga Njagi, whose body was discovered near a river in Machakos County.
Njagi, who served as Deputy Catering Services Manager at KUTRRH, was reported missing on Monday, February 2, 2026.
His family revealed that he received a phone call from a known contact on the night he vanished. Shortly after, he left his home along the Eastern Bypass in Ruiru, Kiambu County, and never returned.
Days of frantic searches by family, friends, and colleagues ended in tragedy when Njagi’s lifeless body was found along the Nairobi–Meru highway in Masinga, over 60 kilometres from his home.
The body bore severe head injuries, apparently inflicted with a blunt object. Njagi’s car was later recovered abandoned in Thika, while his mobile phone remains missing.
The shocking killing has sparked outrage among colleagues, who described Njagi as hardworking and dedicated.
Hospital staff and relatives have called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to expedite the investigation and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
KUTRRH Chief Executive Officer Zainab Gura condemned the murder, urging security agencies to act swiftly.
She stressed that justice is vital not only for Njagi’s young family but also for the wider medical community.
The family continues to appeal to anyone with information to assist authorities in solving the case and holding those responsible accountable.
