Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has clarified the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) ambitions for the Deputy President’s seat, stating that the position is not currently available.
Speaking recently, CS Ruku emphasized that ODM will have the opportunity to hold the Deputy Presidency only in 2032, when Kithure Kindiki is projected to assume the presidency. For now, the seat remains occupied and is not open for contest.
His remarks highlight the ongoing political negotiations and strategic positioning ahead of Kenya’s 2027 and 2032 general elections.
By specifying 2032 as the earliest opportunity for ODM, Ruku underscores the long-term planning and the importance of respecting current officeholders.
“The Deputy President’s seat is a critical role in Kenya’s political landscape, often serving as a stepping stone to the presidency,” Ruku noted, signaling that major parties like ODM must carefully consider their ambitions and timing.
CS Ruku shared his detailed thoughts in a post on his official Facebook page, elaborating on Kenya’s future leadership plans and the strategic considerations surrounding key political offices.
This statement comes amid growing discussions about succession, alliances, and leadership positioning in Kenya’s evolving political scene.
Parties are now focusing not just on immediate gains but also on long-term influence leading into the 2032 elections.
