Youth in Ugunja, Siaya County, disrupted a political tour by senior Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) figures, openly declaring their backing for President William Ruto.
The tour, which included Governor James Orengo and Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, faced resistance as crowds of young men chanted slogans supporting the President.
One local leader praised Ruto, declaring in Swahili, “William Ruto sio mdanganyifu”—meaning “William Ruto is not a deceiver”—and urged residents not to heed opposition leaders.
The speaker claimed that preparations were already underway to secure Ruto a second term, citing voter registration drives that had netted over 10,000 new voters in the area.
Another youth leader criticised local officials for limiting Nyanza’s representation in the Cabinet, noting that the region has only two ministers compared to eight from Mount Kenya.
The youth demanded development and empowerment, insisting they would no longer support leaders who they feel have neglected the region. Throughout the event, the crowd repeatedly chanted “two-term” in support of the President.
