Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has downplayed fears that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) could face a crisis if Secretary General Edwin Sifuna is expelled from the party.
Speaking on Monday amid rising internal tensions, Mbadi said claims that Sifuna holds critical party documents are misleading.
He explained that ODM restructured its internal systems years ago, transferring key legal and registration documents to a board of trustees, which now safeguards the party’s essential records.
“Let nobody lie to people that the Secretary General has important ODM documents. We changed that system a long time ago when we created trustees. He does not even know where the ODM registration certificate is kept,” Mbadi said.
The CS stressed that party loyalty and discipline are non-negotiable, asserting that leaders whose actions conflict with ODM’s collective interests should face disciplinary action.
“A person like Sifuna is not going to remain in ODM because he is already conflicted. If he is selling the agenda of someone else, allow him to go,” Mbadi added.
His remarks come as ODM grapples with internal disagreements over its political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Tensions escalated recently when Sifuna held a large rally in Busia County, openly challenging senior party figures, including ODM national chairperson Oburu Odinga.
Mbadi called for the immediate convening of a disciplinary committee to address these concerns and reiterated that the party would continue to enforce its rules and maintain internal cohesion.
