"Hata Rais Ruto Amekataa" – Tension in ODM as CS Mbadi Insists Sifuna Must Leave the Party

Speaking on Monday, CS John Mbadi revealed that ODM Secretary General  Edwin Sifuna must leave the party for continuing to oppose the broad-based government and criticizing it despite repeated warnings.

Mbadi said that Sifuna’s actions are causing unnecessary tension within the party and affecting its relationship with the government.

In a statement, Mbadi explained that as founding leaders of the ODM Party, they recently reached out to Sifuna, urging him to stop opposing the unity between ODM and the Kenya Kwanza government.

However, Mbadi said that Sifuna ignored their pleas and continued with his public criticisms.

He added that the party leadership can no longer defend him, noting that even President William Ruto has directed that Sifuna be removed from the party.

According to Mbadi, they have been warned about serious consequences if they fail to act, particularly as ODM leaders serving in government.

Mbadi further emphasized that failing to remove Sifuna could weaken the unity between ODM and Kenya Kwanza, which would be seen as a betrayal to the late Raila Odinga.

He reminded that Raila’s vision was for ODM to remain in government to ensure that Luos and other communities benefit from national development.

The tension highlights ongoing challenges within ODM as leaders try to balance party loyalty, government cooperation, and the legacy of its founder.

Many political watchers now say that the party’s next steps regarding Sifuna will determine its influence in the current political landscape.
