RIP: Sad as Photos of KMTC Nyeri Student Who Was Allegedly Abused Before Being Murdered and Her Body Dumped in Thicket Emerge

Police in Nyeri County have arrested a suspect in connection with the death of Sheila Chebet, a first-year student at KMTC Nyeri campus, who was found murdered in the Rafina area.

According to reports, investigators confirmed that the suspect, also a student at Karatina University, was arrested after CCTV footage allegedly placed him as the last person seen with the deceased. He was also found in possession of her mobile phone, a Xiaomi Redmi.

Speaking after his arrest, the suspect told detectives that he and the deceased had spent time together on the night of the incident, where they reportedly took drinks at a bar in Karatina town.

He alleged that after drinking, they went to a friend’s house in Rafina Estate, where a disagreement broke out and the deceased insisted on leaving.

He further claimed that while escorting her to Karatina stage, they were allegedly ambushed by three men who attacked them, forcing him to run away and leave her behind.

The suspect also stated that during the incident, his phone was robbed but he managed to leave with the deceased’s phone.

However, investigators have disputed parts of his account, revealing that the deceased was allegedly assaulted for several hours before being killed. Her body was later discovered in a thicket on April 10, 2026, by a resident who alerted police.

Officers who arrived at the scene reported that the body was found naked, with a belt tied around her neck.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending a postmortem examination as investigations continue to establish the exact circumstances surrounding her death.

Authorities say the probe is ongoing.
