A family in Machakos County is in mourning after a tragic road accident claimed the life of a middle-aged woman who was a chief and left her two daughters seriously injured.
The accident occurred in the Kimangu area along the busy Machakos–Kyumbi road, a route known for frequent traffic incidents.
Witnesses said the family car collided with a public service matatu before losing control and rolling several times into a roadside ditch.
According to reports, the vehicle was being driven by one of the daughters when she lost control at high speed, leading to the crash.
Emergency responders from Machakos County arrived at the scene and confirmed that the woman died on the spot.
Officials revealed that the woman had attempted to jump out of the moving car in a desperate effort to save her life, but she did not survive the impact.
The two injured daughters were rescued from the wreckage and rushed to Machakos County Referral Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
Medical staff said they suffered serious injuries but are under close care.
Authorities have raised concern over the rising number of road accidents across Kenya, urging drivers to observe speed limits and exercise caution, especially on major highways.
The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary at the same hospital as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
We send our heartfelt condolences to the family during this painful time and wish the injured daughters a quick recovery.
