A local politician in Kirinyaga County, who was planning to vie for an MCA seat, has reportedly shocked many after allegedly killing his wife and two children before taking his own life.
The man, identified as Matthew Kinyanjui, is said to have committed the tragic act that has left the community in deep pain and disbelief.
According to reports shared on social media, the politician, who was well known and gaining popularity in his ward, arrived home in the evening looking very tired. Witnesses say he was carrying a bottle of alcohol in his hand when he entered the house.
It is further reported that nobody, including his wife, noticed anything unusual at first. He allegedly went straight to the kitchen and is said to have put poison in the family food without anyone realizing.
After that, Kinyanjui reportedly went to his bedroom and locked the door while the family was eating the poisoned food.
About 30 minutes later, they started complaining of severe stomach pain, which alerted neighbours who rushed to the scene and helped take them to hospital.
When the bedroom door was later forced open, Kinyanjui was found hanging inside and already dead. His body was taken to the morgue. Sadly, his wife and children also reportedly died later at the hospital despite efforts to save them.
The tragic incident has left many residents in shock and confusion, with questions still remaining about what may have led to such a heartbreaking event.
