“I’m Sorry,” Millicent Omanga Apologizes to Gikomba Traders Over Support for Ruto

Former nominated senator Millicent Omanga has publicly apologized to traders at Gikomba Market, admitting that her support for President William Ruto during the 2022 General Election did not deliver the results many had hoped for.

Speaking during a political rally in Nairobi attended by several opposition leaders, Omanga recalled how she actively campaigned in Gikomba, urging residents and business owners to support Ruto’s presidential bid.

However, she acknowledged that events that followed, including the demolition of businesses in the area, left many traders feeling disappointed and betrayed.

“I came here in 2022 and asked you to support Ruto, but what has happened since then is not what we expected,” she told the crowd, expressing regret over her earlier stance.

Omanga further stated that, like many Kenyans, she now feels that the promises made at the time were misleading. She noted that government actions have negatively affected small-scale traders who rely on Gikomba Market for their daily income.

She described the situation as a lesson, stressing the importance of making more informed political decisions in the future.

The former senator also urged residents to stay alert and carefully evaluate their choices ahead of the 2027 General Election, emphasizing that leadership should focus on improving the lives of ordinary citizens.

Omanga expressed hope that voters will elect leaders who are accountable and responsive to the needs of the people.

Her remarks come at a time when several leaders are reassessing their 2022 campaign positions, particularly in Nairobi, where economic challenges and disruptions to businesses have become key political concerns.

Analysts believe such public statements signal changing political dynamics as leaders attempt to rebuild trust with voters ahead of the next election cycle.
