Siaya Governor James Orengo Receives Warm Welcome in Ugunja Ahead of President Ruto’s Visit

Siaya Governor James Orengo on Friday received a hero’s welcome in Ugunja as he held a series of rallies in the town. Hundreds of supporters lined the streets, cheering and chanting slogans as the governor walked along busy roads, temporarily bringing activity in the town to a standstill.

Orengo, known for his opposition to William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, is a key figure in the Linda Mwananchi ODM faction. His tour comes just a day before the President visits Siaya County to launch and commission several development projects.

During his upcoming visit, President Ruto is expected to:
Launch the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) extension project
Lay the foundation stone for the Yala Affordable Housing Project in Ugunja

Break ground for the Usenge Pier, a project implemented by the Kenya Ports Authority
The President will return to Siaya on Tuesday for additional engagements, including commissioning the Bar Ober ESP Market and launching the Siaya Affordable Housing Project.

Orengo’s rallies demonstrate his strong local influence and the continued political contest in the region ahead of the 2027 general elections.
