President William Ruto has sent a clear political message to his opponents, asserting that his administration is fully prepared for any contest as it pushes ahead with nationwide development projects.
Speaking during the launch of Phase 2C of the Kisumu–Malaba Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) in Kisumu, President Ruto highlighted the government’s commitment to transforming Kenya through major infrastructure initiatives.
He emphasized that the administration’s track record in development speaks for itself, noting that even critics now acknowledge the progress.
“Tunawatangazia wale ambao wanataka kushindana na sisi…tuko kadi na tuko tayari,” Ruto stated. (We are sending a message to those who want to compete with us that our development projects are continuing. We are transforming Kenya, and I want to tell you that we are ready and fully prepared.)
The remarks come amid the rising use of the “tuko kadi” slogan, associated with a youth-led voter registration drive targeting Gen Z and encouraging young people to participate in the 2027 general elections.
The initiative, spearheaded by photojournalist and activist Ademba Allans, aims to boost civic engagement and voter turnout among Kenya’s youth.
President Ruto reaffirmed that his administration remains focused on visible infrastructure and development projects across the country, including:
The Mau Summit Road expansion
Modernisation projects at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
Completion of Talanta Stadium
Construction of a new conference facility at Bomas of Kenya
He also pledged to continue visiting the Nyanza region to oversee national development initiatives and ensure the benefits of infrastructure projects, such as the Kisumu–Malaba SGR, reach local communities.
The Kisumu–Malaba SGR launch, flagged off alongside Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, marks a milestone in enhancing regional transport connectivity and trade between Kenya and Uganda.
