RIP: Shock as Senior Government Official Attacked by Goons After Leaving Drinking Den, Murdered and Body Parts Chopped Off

A family in Mundulusia village, Matayos Constituency, Busia County, is seeking justice after their son, who was a chief, was brutally murdered and his mutilated body later discovered in a stream.

The deceased, identified as 58-year-old Gilbert, reportedly went missing about two weeks ago after attending a burial ceremony in the area. His sudden disappearance prompted a search by family members and concerned locals.

Their fears were confirmed when farmers found his body dumped in a stream. The remains had been severely mutilated, with the legs, hands, tongue, and private parts missing.

Family members are now calling on the police to speed up investigations and uncover those behind the shocking killing. They claim Ojiambo was last seen on May 16 at a local chang’aa drinking den known as Bitu.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Hilary Ouma alleged that the attackers could be individuals known to the deceased.

He stated that Ojiambo had been in the company of friends before he disappeared and urged authorities to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

The deceased’s son, Samwel Wanjala, appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information as investigations continue. He emphasized that the family’s main concern is to see those behind the killing identified and punished.

Ojiambo’s sister, Githa Nabwire, claimed her brother may have been attacked after leaving the chang’aa den with his companions. She suspects the killing could be linked to ritualistic practices, alleging that the perpetrators might have targeted his body parts for cult-related purposes.

She further explained that the family is facing uncertainty regarding burial arrangements due to cultural traditions, which require guidance from elders in such cases. According to her, certain cleansing rituals may need to be performed before the burial.

A village elder also urged residents to remain patient and allow investigators time to complete their work. However, she raised concern over the increasing number of illegal alcohol dens in the area, linking them to insecurity and rising cases of mysterious deaths.

She called on the community to work together to address excessive alcohol consumption and curb the spread of illicit brews.

Meanwhile, Western Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured the family that justice will be served.

He added that authorities have intensified operations targeting illegal alcohol outlets and cross-border smuggling activities in the region
