Kalonzo Musyoka Warns Against Moves to Remove Edwin Sifuna From ODM, Says It Would Betray Raila’s Legacy

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has criticized efforts to remove Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), warning that such a move would weaken the party and undermine the legacy of the late Raila Odinga.

Speaking during an interview on Herman Manyora’s podcast, Kalonzo said Sifuna represents the political ideals and bold leadership style associated with ODM’s long-time leader. He argued that pushing him out would signal a shift away from the party’s founding principles.

According to Kalonzo, ODM risks losing its identity if key allies of Sifuna, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, are sidelined.

He warned that such internal changes could create what he described as a “different ODM” disconnected from its original vision.

The Wiper leader further suggested that the party could gradually drift into what he termed a “Ruto-aligned ODM,” referring to President William Ruto.

He said this would strip the party of its ideological foundation and reduce its influence in opposition politics.

Kalonzo also praised Sifuna’s outspoken nature, comparing his courage to the energy of Gen Z activists.

He added that the United Opposition would be willing to work with Sifuna if he is eventually pushed out of ODM, describing him as a potential future leader.

The remarks come at a time when ODM is facing internal disputes, including legal and political debates over attempts to remove Sifuna from his position as Secretary-General.

The situation highlights growing tensions within the party and possible shifts in Kenya’s opposition landscape.
