Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa Says Edwin Sifuna Has No Influence in Western Kenya Politics

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has stated that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna does not have political influence in Western Kenya, as he reaffirmed the strength of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in the region.

Speaking on Sunday, Barasa said ODM remains united and firmly grounded in Western Kenya, dismissing claims of growing internal divisions or competing power centres within the party.

He also sent a reassuring message to ODM party leadership, saying party officials should feel confident when visiting the region due to strong grassroots support.

“Edwin Sifuna has no influence in Western; he is simply from Nairobi. In Western, ODM remains strong and intact. I assure ODM Party Leader Senator Oburu Odinga that he should have no fear in coming to Western because he has solid support on the ground,” Barasa said.

His remarks come amid ongoing discussions about internal dynamics within ODM and the influence of various leaders across different regions.

Senator Sifuna, who serves as a prominent figure in Nairobi politics and a vocal party leader, has previously faced criticism from some quarters over attempts to project influence beyond his base.

Barasa’s comments appear aimed at reinforcing ODM’s regional structure and maintaining unity within the party as it prepares for future political contests.

Observers say the statement also reflects efforts to consolidate support in Western Kenya, which remains one of ODM’s key strongholds.

By emphasizing loyalty and grassroots backing, the governor sought to dismiss suggestions that internal disagreements could weaken the party’s dominance in the region.
