Speaking while serving her 30-year jail sentence at Lang’ata Women Prison, a woman identified as Rebecca shared her painful story of how she ended up behind bars.
Rebecca explained that she is a mother of four children. She said her friend approached her and convinced her with an idea of making quick money. At that time, she was struggling financially and wanted a better life for her children.
She further said her friend later connected her with a group of robbers. Her role, according to what she was told, was to move around with them while the stolen money would be sent to her bank account.
She believed it was just an easy way to earn money without fully understanding the danger involved.
Rebecca added that she left her children under the care of her friend. However, things changed quickly when she was arrested after a robbery incident in which a person was killed.
Shockingly, money linked to the victim’s mobile phone was traced and transferred to her account.
She was taken to court and charged with murder. Rebecca said she tried to explain her side of the story, but the court found her guilty and sentenced her to 30 years in prison.
While she was serving her sentence, she later learned that her friend had chased away her children.
Rebecca now warns other women to be very careful about the friends they trust, saying some friendships can lead people into serious trouble and destroy their lives.
