Close Friend Recalls Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ngeno’s Final Day Before Helicopter Tragedy

A young engineer, Kipchirchir Mosonik, shared poignant memories of his time with Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ngeno on the last day of her life before a helicopter crash claimed six lives, including the lawmaker’s, in Mosop, Nandi County.

In a video posted on Facebook, Mosonik recounted accompanying Ngeno on a trip to Endebess on the morning of February 28.

They were traveling together in the same helicopter to attend a musician’s event. The engineer described the MP as jovial and full of life, with the day beginning on a high note.

Later in the day, Mosonik chose not to board the helicopter on the return trip, instead traveling by road with the MP’s personal assistant. He learned of the tragic accident while en route to Kitale, struggling to contain his grief.

“By the time we arrived in Kitale, we got information about the chopper accident,” Mosonik said, visibly emotional. He reflected on his final moments with Ngeno: “I last saw him happy and full of optimism as he waved goodbye in Endebess. He was at his happiest. My heart is so heavy.”

Eyewitnesses at the crash site reported foggy conditions, with the helicopter having initially made an emergency landing before taking off again, ultimately resulting in the devastating accident.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves across the country, with Kenyans mourning the loss of the three-term lawmaker known for his active community engagement and dedication to public service.

Loved ones and colleagues continue to process the sudden loss, remembering Ngeno for his warmth, commitment, and service to his constituents.
