Residents of Kagayu in Gatitu Ward, Nyeri Town Constituency are reeling after a young mother and her two children were found dead in their home in what police suspect may be a murder-suicide.
According to reports, the woman was discovered hanging in her bedroom, while her two children, aged three and one, were found in the sitting room with fatal injuries.
Neighbours, who became concerned after not seeing the family for hours, alerted authorities. Police arrived, confirmed the deaths, and transferred the bodies to the local mortuary for preservation and postmortem examination.
Detectives have launched investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Authorities are working to reconstruct the final moments in the home and establish whether the mother acted alone or if other factors were involved.
Neighbours expressed disbelief, stating they had never observed signs of trouble within the household.
Experts note that similar cases in Kenya are often linked to untreated mental health issues, financial strain, or domestic conflict.
Authorities urge the public to seek help when facing emotional or psychological distress and to remain vigilant for warning signs among relatives and neighbours to prevent similar incidents.
