Ruto Chants Disrupt Siaya Rally, Orengo Cut Short Amid Crowd Commotion

A political rally in Siaya County turned tense on Sunday after a group of youths disrupted proceedings with chants supporting President William Ruto.

The event, which drew a sizeable crowd, featured Siaya Governor James Orengo, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino addressing residents on local and national issues.

Moments after Governor Orengo began speaking, chants of “Ruto, Tutam” erupted from a section of the audience, growing louder despite efforts by some attendees to quiet the group.

The disruption forced Governor Orengo to cut his speech short, while Babu Owino and Senator Sifuna faced a restless audience during their planned remarks. The incident highlighted rising political competition in a region traditionally seen as an opposition stronghold.

Leaders at the rally urged residents to respect differing political views and allow speakers to address public forums without interruptions.

Local organisers appealed for calm, stressing the importance of peaceful civic engagement as political campaigns gain momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
