Reports Claim Emergency State House Talks After Busia Rally Draws Huge Crowds

Unconfirmed reports circulating within political circles indicate that an urgent meeting was held at State House following an unexpectedly large turnout at a recent political rally in Busia County.

According to the claims, the scale of the gathering reportedly unsettled senior government figures, particularly after prior internal assessments had suggested the event would attract limited public interest.

Sources allege that the high-level meeting brought together National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, two governors drawn from Nyanza and Mt Kenya regions, as well as five Members of Parliament from Nyanza. Veteran politician Oburu Odinga was reportedly invited but did not attend.

Alleged Frustration Over ODM Signals

Reports further claim that President William Ruto expressed dissatisfaction over what he viewed as inconsistent political messaging from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

He is said to have questioned how elements of the party could claim cooperation within a broad-based political framework, while senior ODM officials continue to openly criticise his administration and mobilise supporters linked to the popular “Wantam” slogan.

According to the same accounts, the President reportedly instructed Mudavadi and Wetang’ula to intensify efforts to consolidate support in Western Kenya, warning that failure to deliver political unity in the region could prompt a rethink of strategic alliances.

Mt Kenya Politics in Focus

The meeting is also said to have touched on the delicate political dynamics in Mt Kenya, with one governor allegedly assured of a favourable post-election arrangement should President Ruto secure a second term — on condition that they deliver strong regional backing.

Additional claims suggest the President voiced concern over ongoing internal differences within the Odinga family, particularly continued criticism from some members despite what he reportedly considers efforts at political accommodation.

What Comes Next

Following the meeting, Mudavadi and Wetang’ula are expected to return to Western Kenya to reinforce government outreach and support mobilisation, as political tensions and alliance calculations continue to evolve.

While none of the details have been officially confirmed, the reports point to heightened political sensitivity within government ranks as the country gradually edges toward the 2027 General Election.
