Orwoba Takes Aim at Murkomen Over Claims of Goons’ Police Protection

Former nominated UDA senator Gloria Orwoba has sharply criticized Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, questioning his suitability to comment on matters involving goons and political violence.

Speaking on Thursday, February 26, 2026, during an interview on KTN Prime, Orwoba alleged that the Interior Ministry has direct knowledge of incidents where individuals accused of orchestrating political violence were shielded by elements within law enforcement.

“The Last Person to Comment”

During the televised interview, Orwoba argued that Murkomen, by virtue of his docket, oversees security agencies and therefore cannot distance himself from allegations of misconduct within the police service.

“There are videos that newsrooms have put out showing goons being protected by police officers. We know where the officers report, who handles those dockets, and that they take orders from above,” she stated.

According to Orwoba, any public remarks from the Interior CS on the issue raise concerns, given the ministry’s supervisory authority over the units allegedly implicated.

Rising Concerns Over Political Violence

Her remarks come amid growing national debate over political violence and accountability within security agencies.

Orwoba maintained that failure to investigate alleged collusion between political actors and rogue officers risks eroding public trust in law enforcement institutions.

She called for transparent investigations into the claims, warning that shielding perpetrators undermines confidence in the government’s ability to maintain order impartially.

Debate on Oversight and Accountability

Observers say the senator’s comments underscore ongoing tensions between political leadership and security agencies, particularly in politically charged environments.

Questions surrounding oversight, independence of policing, and the responsibility of senior officials remain central to the broader conversation.

By raising the matter on prime-time television, Orwoba has pushed the issue of governance and accountability back into national focus.

Whether her remarks will prompt official responses or investigations remains to be seen, but they have already reignited debate over the role of top officials in safeguarding the integrity of Kenya’s security institutions.
