A woman from Nakuru County has spoken publicly about the tragic chain of events that led to the death of her college roommate — a moment that ultimately saw her serve a five-year prison sentence.
In an emotional interview reported by Tuko.co.ke, the former student recounted how a disagreement over rent spiraled into a physical confrontation with devastating consequences.
Argument That Turned Fatal
According to her account, the two young women were sharing a single rented room in Nakuru while pursuing their college studies. Tension had reportedly been building over unpaid rent, leading to repeated disagreements.
On the day of the incident, what began as a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation.
She claimed that her roommate moved toward her aggressively during the confrontation. In what she described as an act of self-defense, she pushed her.
She maintained that she did not believe the push was forceful, noting that her roommate was physically bigger than her. However, events quickly took a tragic turn.
A Devastating Discovery
After stepping out briefly, she returned to find her roommate still lying on the floor and unresponsive. Panicked, she sought assistance from neighbors, and the injured woman was rushed to hospital.
Despite medical efforts and oxygen support, the roommate was pronounced dead hours later.
Arrest, Plea and Sentencing
Following the incident, the Nakuru woman was arrested and charged with murder. Confronted with the gravity of the case, she chose to plead guilty in court. She was subsequently sentenced to five years in prison.
