ODM Plans Parallel Rallies Amid Internal Tensions

Orange Democratic Movement has announced a major rally set for Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Ahindi Grounds in Siaya town.

The meeting has been organised by a faction within the party as internal divisions continue to grow, with supporters urged to “protect the ground together.”

Siaya is politically significant as the home base of Raila Odinga, and any show of strength there carries symbolic weight for ODM members nationwide.

The Siaya rally coincides with another event planned by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna in Kakamega County, dubbed the “Linda Mwananchi” rally, aimed at defending ordinary citizens.

Sifuna is working closely with Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

Sifuna and his allies have openly resisted cooperation with President William Ruto and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), insisting that ODM remain a strong opposition party and prepare for the 2027 presidential race.

Meanwhile, a different group within ODM—including Oburu Odinga, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed—has supported dialogue on a broad-based government, recently addressing supporters at Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa.

The party’s internal tension has intensified following the disruption of Sifuna’s rally in Kitengela, where police used tear gas to disperse crowds, forcing leaders to flee.

Political analysts suggest that the turnout at the Siaya and Kakamega rallies will test ODM’s grassroots unity and may influence the party’s strategic direction ahead of 2027.

Security agencies are expected to maintain a strong presence to ensure peaceful gatherings, as emotions run high among supporters on both sides. The events could determine whether ODM emerges more united or faces a lasting split.
