President William Ruto’s outreach in the Nyanza region received a notable endorsement from Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o following a multi-day visit that concluded with significant development announcements.
In a post on X on February 2, 2026, Nyong’o expressed his honor in hosting the President in Kisumu since Friday, highlighting several key achievements delivered during the trip.
The governor pointed to graduation ceremonies at Uzima University, the commissioning of the Kanyakwar Affordable Housing project, and the empowerment of over 8,000 youth through the NYOTA Start-up Capital program. He also confirmed that the Ksh950 million revamp of Moi Stadium remains on track.
During the NYOTA disbursement at Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium, President Ruto oversaw the release of Ksh220 million to beneficiaries from Kisumu, Siaya, and Homa Bay counties, aimed at boosting youth entrepreneurship and job creation.
Emphasizing collaborative progress, Nyong’o stated:
"Together! we build jobs, growth & better lives!" Photos shared alongside the message depicted large crowds, presidential interactions, academic events, housing construction, and stadium-related activities, underscoring a spirit of partnership between the national government and Kisumu County.
Nyong’o’s positive tone, using the hashtag #TichTire (meaning work together in Dholuo), is particularly noteworthy given his affiliation with the opposition-leaning Orange Democratic Movement.
His public commendation of Ruto’s initiatives in education, housing, youth empowerment, and infrastructure signals growing cross-party engagement in the region.
This development boosts President Ruto’s 2027 re-election strategy, particularly in traditionally opposition strongholds like Nyanza.
By delivering tangible projects and earning praise from a prominent local leader, the administration strengthens its narrative of inclusive development and bottom-up economic growth, potentially broadening its voter base ahead of the elections.
