On Tuesday, claims of betrayal surfaced within the united opposition after an ODM member publicly accused some opposition leaders of secretly reaching out to President William Ruto for personal benefit.
According to the allegations, these leaders act as strong critics of the government in public, but behind the scenes, they are said to be making private demands that serve their own interests.
In a statement that sparked intense discussion on social media, Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai claimed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has recently contacted President Ruto.
Alai alleged that Gachagua is seeking a secret deal after realizing that President Ruto is expected to remain in office until 2032, as provided by the Constitution.
Alai further claimed that Gachagua wants the president to help him secure retirement benefits. However, he argued that such benefits would be unconstitutional since Gachagua was impeached while in office. These allegations remain claims and have not been officially verified.
The MCA also mentioned Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing him of making similar requests. According to Alai, Kalonzo is also allegedly pushing for increased retirement benefits.
Alai accused both leaders of hypocrisy, saying they speak strongly against the government during rallies while secretly engaging with it behind closed doors.
The claims have drawn mixed reactions from Kenyans, with some calling for honesty and accountability, while others urge the public to treat the allegations with caution.
