Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has officially resigned from his role as Executive Director of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party.
In a resignation letter addressed to Azimio chairperson Uhuru Kenyatta, Tuju confirmed that he had formally handed over his duties to Philip Kisia.
He explained that the decision was reached following a joint meeting of the coalition’s Council and National Executive Committee (NEC) held earlier in the day.
According to Tuju, the council resolved that he vacates the position to allow for new leadership within the coalition’s secretariat. He noted that the transition process had already commenced to ensure a smooth continuity of operations.
By copying the letter to relevant party organs, Tuju formally communicated that Philip Kisia would assume the role of Executive Director. The handover was described as orderly and in line with internal party resolutions.
Tuju, a veteran politician and former Cabinet minister, has played a key role in Azimio’s administrative and strategic coordination since the coalition was formed. His departure marks a significant change within the opposition outfit as it continues to reorganise its internal structures.
Sources within the coalition indicate that the move is part of broader efforts to strengthen leadership and improve operational efficiency ahead of future political engagements.
Philip Kisia, who now takes over the position, is expected to oversee the day-to-day running of the coalition secretariat and coordinate the implementation of council decisions.
While Tuju did not reveal his next political steps, his exit has sparked discussions within political circles about the direction Azimio may take under its new administrative leadership.
More details are expected as the coalition continues to clarify roles and complete its restructuring process.
