KeNHA Announces Nightly Closure of Uhuru Highway for Maintenance

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of a key section of Uhuru Highway in Nairobi to facilitate road maintenance works.

The affected stretch runs from the University of Nairobi Roundabout to the Westlands Roundabout. The closure will take place every night from 10 pm to 5 am between Friday, 6 February, and Friday, 13 February 2026. Normal traffic flow will resume during the day.

KeNHA urged motorists to follow the traffic management plan and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals deployed during the closure.

For drivers heading to Chiromo Road via Uhuru Highway, alternative routes include Nyerere Road, Arboretum Drive, Westlands Ring Road, or the Nairobi Expressway.

Those joining the highway towards Mombasa-bound traffic are advised to use Parklands Ring Road, Ojijo Road, Kipande Road, Limuru Road, and University Way.

The authority said the maintenance works aim to improve road safety and efficiency and apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Uhuru Highway, a vital corridor linking Nairobi’s CBD, Westlands, and Upper Hill, as well as the roads to Nakuru and Mombasa, has faced increasing traffic volumes over the years, making periodic maintenance necessary.

This closure is part of KeNHA’s ongoing efforts to maintain Nairobi’s road network amid growing traffic pressure.
