Residents of Makueni County were thrown into panic after a baby-sized coffin was discovered dumped along a roadside near Wote.
The eerie find, made on Wednesday, February 11, contained a chilling, blood-stained note listing the names of nine local leaders, some of whom are active or aspiring politicians in the Ukambani region.
Eyewitnesses reported that the coffin was located just a few kilometers from Wote and close to the residence of a senior county official.
The note inside, marked with crosses beside each name, carried a warning that left locals frightened and confused.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Makueni youth leader Meshack Kyenze, whose name was among those on the note, described widespread fear following the incident.
Many residents linked the act to superstition or intimidation tactics, while young people suspected it was aimed at sending a warning to county political figures.
Police investigations faced a setback after clerics called to the scene burned the coffin and its contents, potentially destroying crucial evidence.
Despite the incident, Kyenze vowed not to be intimidated and promised to continue his public service as authorities pursue those responsible.
The unusual discovery has left the community on edge, highlighting the intersection of superstition, political tension, and fear in local areas.
