Kenyan TV fans fondly remember Tahidi High as one of the most popular local series that captured audiences for years. Among its standout stars was Ted Kitana, famously known as Mr. Kilunda, the no-nonsense teacher whose strict demeanor kept students—and viewers—on their toes.
Kitana’s signature ‘Kilunda look’—the expression a teacher gives when catching a student in the act—alongside his witty interactions with students like OJ (Dennis Mugo), Abel Mutua, Shish, and fellow staff such as Miss Morgan and Omosh, made him a fan favorite.
Many tuned in to see whether Mr. Kilunda could outsmart the students’ pranks, creating a dynamic reminiscent of a Tom and Jerry-style showdown in a classroom.
His ability to bring the no-nonsense teacher to life earned him nationwide acclaim. However, when Tahidi High ended in 2020, Kitana returned to his rural roots in Machakos County, shifting focus from the limelight to entrepreneurship.
Today, he runs a salon, a barbershop, and engages in mixed farming. Reflecting on his new lifestyle, Kitana once said, "The village life is actually the best. Food is fresh, no pressure. I have no plans of going back to the city, especially because Tahidi was halted. I have everything I need here."
While fans may miss seeing him on television, Mr. Kilunda’s story is a reminder of how life beyond fame can be equally fulfilling, rooted in simplicity, family, and community.
