A solemn mood enveloped mourners on Saturday, January 14, as family, leaders and residents gathered in Olkalou Constituency, Nyandarua County, to bid farewell to revered freedom fighter General Kiambati Njora Muronyo.
The burial ceremony drew prominent figures, including Wanjiku Muhoho, cousin to former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and Nyandarua Senator John Methu, who joined the community in honouring the late general’s immense contribution to Kenya’s liberation struggle.
In a heartfelt tribute shared after the ceremony, Wanjiku described General Kiambati as a gallant hero whose courage and sacrifice played a pivotal role in resisting colonial rule.
She emphasized that his bravery—together with that of other freedom fighters—laid a strong foundation for Kenya’s independence and sovereignty.
She further noted that Ngorika had received a rare honour by becoming the final resting place of such a revolutionary figure, whose life remains deeply intertwined with the nation’s history.
Beyond his role in the liberation movement, speakers remembered General Kiambati as a devoted family man and a gentle father who raised a disciplined and closely knit family.
Leaders and community members echoed similar sentiments, praising his resilience, endurance and unwavering commitment to freedom.
They urged younger generations to draw inspiration from his life and uphold the ideals he championed, including unity, patriotism and selflessness.
As the country continues to reflect on the sacrifices made by its freedom fighters, mourners called on Kenyans to safeguard the hard-won independence and work towards building a just society grounded in shared values.
General Kiambati Njora Muronyo was ultimately remembered as a symbol of determination and bravery, whose legacy will endure for generations.
