Family Mourns Beatrice Njeri After Death Linked to Unpaid Nairobi County Contract

The family of Beatrice Njeri is grieving after she passed away on Friday morning at Aga Khan Hospital, reportedly due to depression linked to unpaid funds totaling KSh 36.7 million from the Nairobi County Government.

Beatrice had secured a tender to construct a 2.7-kilometer road in the Ruai Kanisani area (Tender No. NCCG/M&W/T/125/2023-2024). To finance the project, she took loans from banks and other lenders, a burden that reportedly worsened her health over time.

Her brother, James Kangore, explained that mounting pressure from creditors contributed to her declining health.

Fellow contractor Ruth Wahome confirmed that the Kanisani road project was completed, and the first invoice was raised in October 2024, but repeated follow-ups with county officials were unsuccessful.

The family is now appealing to the Nairobi County Government to release the outstanding payment, not only to honour Beatrice’s work but also to settle her hospital bills, which have accumulated to KSh 3.2 million.

This tragic incident has reignited conversations about delayed payments to contractors and the toll financial pressure can take on mental health.
