Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda has publicly come to the defense of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna following his removal as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
In a strong statement, Muhanda described Sifuna as a principled leader committed to democracy and open engagement, highlighting his contribution to internal party discourse and the party’s visibility.
She reflected on ODM leader Raila Odinga’s legacy, noting that dialogue and inclusion have long been central to the party’s ethos, even in moments of sharp disagreement.
Muhanda warned that punishing members for holding differing views risks weakening ODM’s unity and moral authority.
She urged party leaders to embrace consultation and consensus rather than making abrupt decisions that could sow mistrust and confusion among supporters.
The remarks come after the ODM National Executive Council removed Sifuna from his Secretary General role, sparking debate about internal democracy and the future direction of the party.
Muhanda concluded by stressing that unity, respect, and internal dialogue remain vital for ODM’s credibility and long-term political strength.
