Kenya’s political scene has taken a new and surprising turn following claims that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has allegedly been picked to be President William Ruto’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to the reports, this development may mean that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki could be sidelined as new political strategies begin to take shape within the ruling coalition.
The claims have caused mixed reactions among politicians and Kenyans on social media, with many questioning their truth and timing.
According to a statement shared by a UDA-aligned Member of County Assembly (MCA), a private meeting was allegedly held on Friday night in Mombasa.
The MCA claims that several key leaders from the Kenya Kwanza coalition attended the meeting. He said the leaders met to discuss the future of the coalition and possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
One of the main topics, according to him, was how Senator Edwin Sifuna could be convinced to leave the opposition and join President Ruto’s political camp.
The MCA further alleged that during the meeting, the leaders decided to reach out to Sifuna directly.
He claimed that a phone call was made to the Nairobi senator, during which the proposal was discussed. According to the MCA, Sifuna did not dismiss the idea immediately.
However, it is claimed that he agreed to consider the offer only if one condition was met. The exact details of that condition were not disclosed, leaving room for speculation among political observers.
So far, there has been no official confirmation from President William Ruto, Senator Edwin Sifuna, or Deputy President Kithure Kindiki regarding the claims.
Political analysts have urged Kenyans to treat the reports with caution, noting that unverified political stories often increase as elections draw closer.
Until official statements are issued, the alleged meeting and talks remain claims that are yet to be proven. Kenyans are therefore advised to rely on confirmed information as the country slowly moves toward the 2027 election season.
