Kenyan singer and entrepreneur Akothee has stirred widespread reactions online after publicly addressing her former partner over his alleged absence in their children’s lives.
In an emotional Facebook post, Akothee said she welcomed him back strictly as a co-parent and not as a romantic partner, emphasizing that she has never closed the door on shared parenting.
However, she expressed frustration that while he maintains an active and celebratory presence on social media, his involvement in the children’s day-to-day lives remains limited.
The mother of five clarified that her concerns are not financial, stating that she has consistently taken full responsibility for raising her children.
Instead, she said she expected effort, accountability, and genuine intention once he re-emerged publicly and privately.
She further revealed that her daughter, Vesha Okello, reached out to her father last October to inform him that she was joining Oxford — a move Akothee described as brave and heartfelt. She claimed the lack of response that followed was deeply painful.
Her remarks have triggered mixed reactions, with some sympathizing with her openness and others arguing that family matters should remain private.
The post has reignited conversations about parental responsibility and the emotional impact of absentee parenting.
