One Killed in Mob Attack Amid Anticipation of “Sifuna Brigade” Arrival in Mbale

Tension gripped Mbale after a mob attack left one man dead as residents awaited the arrival of political allies linked to Edwin Sifuna.

According to eyewitnesses, the man was confronted by an agitated crowd under circumstances that remain unclear.

The situation quickly escalated, and he was violently assaulted despite pleas from some members of the public to stop the attack.

Police later arrived at the scene to disperse the crowd and secure the area, but the victim had already succumbed to his injuries.

The incident occurred amid heightened political activity surrounding events associated with Sifuna, whose recent engagements have drawn large and emotionally charged gatherings.

While it has not been confirmed whether the victim was directly connected to the political mobilization, the timing has raised concerns about rising tensions and the risk of violence during politically charged moments.

Leaders allied to Babu Owino, the Embakasi East MP, condemned the killing and warned against mob justice. They urged residents to remain calm and allow law enforcement agencies to carry out investigations.

Police have launched a probe into the incident, vowing to pursue those responsible. Human rights groups have also denounced the killing, terming it a stark reminder of the dangers of mob justice and the need for peaceful civic engagement.
