Uhuru Kenyatta, Kalonzo Musyoka Tour Obasanjo Library in Nigeria in Pan-African Show of Unity

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka have paid a high-profile visit to the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, highlighting Africa’s shared political heritage and vision for the future.

The two Kenyan leaders were welcomed at the renowned institution established by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, a respected elder statesman on the continent.

The library is widely regarded as a key hub for preserving Africa’s political, cultural, and historical records.

During the visit, Uhuru and Kalonzo toured various sections of the facility, which hosts rare manuscripts, archival photographs, books, and personal records chronicling Nigeria’s political evolution and Africa’s broader journey toward independence, democracy, and accountable leadership.

The leaders were seen keenly engaging with exhibits showcasing landmark moments in African governance and diplomacy.

Since leaving office, Uhuru Kenyatta has remained active in continental peace-building and governance efforts.

He lauded the library as an important platform for Africans to document and tell their own stories, noting its role in educating younger generations on leadership, sacrifice, and democratic ideals.

Kalonzo Musyoka echoed similar views, stressing the importance of African countries preserving their histories locally instead of relying on external interpretations.

He described the library as a critical learning space for emerging leaders seeking to understand the realities of leadership and nation-building in Africa.

The visit also underscored the strong historical ties between Kenya and Nigeria, two nations that have long played influential roles in Africa’s political and economic affairs.

Both leaders emphasized the need for sustained cooperation, dialogue, and knowledge-sharing among African states.

Beyond its political significance, the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library serves as a cultural and intellectual landmark, hosting conferences, exhibitions, and educational programs aimed at promoting unity and thought leadership across the continent.

As Africa continues to confront governance challenges and opportunities, such engagements serve as a reminder that safeguarding history is not merely about preserving the past, but about shaping a more informed and united future.
