On Saturday, a top politician in the ODM Party, Mr. Robert Alai, sent a strong message to former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
Alai told Matiang’i to accept reality and acknowledged that President William Ruto is likely to become a two-term president.
His message came amid growing debates about the political future of Kenya and the upcoming 2027 elections.
Alai’s statement was a reaction to remarks made by Matiang’i, who had earlier predicted that President Ruto might secure a second term if Kenyans do not take action soon.
According to Matiang’i, the future of the country depends on citizens appearing in large numbers to register as voters.
He warned that if the people are not careful and fail to act now, it could give the Kenya Kwanza government an advantage in retaining power.
In his statement, Matiang’i emphasized that many Kenyans seem unprepared to challenge President Ruto’s leadership in the next election.
He noted that voter apathy could allow the Kenya Kwanza government to use the situation to its benefit and potentially rule for another term.
“If citizens do not step up and participate actively in the democratic process, it will be difficult to prevent a repeat of the current government’s success,” Matiang’i remarked.
Reacting to this, Alai urged Matiang’i and others to accept that President Ruto could indeed serve two terms. He called on political leaders and citizens alike to be realistic about the political climate in Kenya.
Alai’s message was widely shared on social media, reflecting the ongoing debate among Kenyans about the 2027 elections and the strategies needed to influence the outcome.
