Ruto Pauses Kisii Speech as Crowd Demands Former Governor Ongwae Be Allowed to Speak

Kisii, Kenya – President William Ruto’s address in Kisii County on Wednesday, January 29, was briefly interrupted after a section of the crowd demanded that former Kisii Governor James Ongwae be allowed to speak during a public event held after the Nyota Program engagements.

As the Head of State addressed residents, chants of Ongwae’s name rang through the crowd, momentarily disrupting the President’s speech.

In a move that drew loud applause, President Ruto paused his address and invited the former governor to the podium. Ongwae later addressed the gathering, thanking the President for the opportunity and calling for unity, cooperation, and development in the region.

President Ruto was warmly received in Kisii County by Governor Simba Arati, South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, and several other local leaders.

The event brought together leaders from across the political divide, including senior figures from the ODM party, led by Suna East MP Junet Mohammed.

During their speeches, leaders praised President Ruto for engaging directly with residents and for rolling out development-focused programmes such as the Nyota initiative.

They urged his administration to prioritise more development projects in Kisii County, particularly in infrastructure, agriculture, youth empowerment, and job creation.

Governor Arati welcomed the President and highlighted key areas requiring increased support from the national government, emphasising that close cooperation between county and national leadership was critical for effective service delivery.

MP Osoro echoed similar sentiments, calling for faster implementation of government projects to uplift the region’s economy.

ODM leaders present struck a conciliatory tone, stressing the importance of unity and collaboration for the benefit of residents.

Junet Mohammed noted that development should transcend political affiliations, urging the national government to work closely with county leadership to address the needs of the people.
In his address, President Ruto reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, assuring residents that Kisii County would not be left behind.

He said his government remained focused on empowering ordinary Kenyans through targeted programmes aimed at economic growth and social inclusion.
