President Ruto Announces Kisii as Host for 2026 Jamhuri Day Celebrations

President William Ruto has confirmed that this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations will be held in Kisii County.

The announcement was made during the Nyota Funds disbursement event at Gusii Stadium, a government program that supports youth and small businesses through affordable financing.

The decision follows a formal request by Kisii Governor Simba Arati to host the national celebrations on December 12.

President Ruto said rotating national events across counties promotes unity, inclusion, and balanced development.

Hosting the celebrations is expected to bring substantial benefits to Kisii, including infrastructure improvements such as roads, security arrangements, and public facilities.

Local businesses—hotels, transport operators, and traders—stand to gain from the influx of visitors from across the country.

The event at Gusii Stadium drew local leaders, youth groups, and residents who welcomed the announcement with excitement.

County officials described the decision as a recognition of Kisii’s contribution to national development, highlighting the opportunity to showcase the county’s culture, hardworking people, and economic potential.

Security agencies and government authorities at both national and county levels are expected to collaborate to ensure the celebrations are well-organized and peaceful.

As Kenya prepares to mark Jamhuri Day, Kisii County takes center stage for what promises to be a historic national celebration.
