Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of allegedly staging chaos at his own public functions to gain sympathy.
Speaking on Sunday, January 25, 2026, Wambugu reacted to an incident in Othaya, Nyeri County, where teargas was reportedly lobbed outside a church while Gachagua was attending a service.
Taking to Facebook, Wambugu commented on photos of masked men captured during the chaos, claiming that the individuals were part of Gachagua’s security team. He alleged that the disturbance was planned and not a random attack.
In the same post, Wambugu also praised residents of Mbeere North for electing Leo Wamuthende as their Member of Parliament, noting that being aligned with the government makes it easier for leaders to deliver development to their people.
According to Wambugu, Wamuthende’s position in government gives him direct access to resources and decision-making processes that benefit his constituents.
Meanwhile, Rigathi Gachagua has continued to rally Kenyans to support the United Opposition ahead of the next general election. He stated that the opposition will front a single presidential candidate to face President William Ruto.
The former Deputy President further claimed that President Ruto will only serve one term, saying the country is headed for “WanTam.” He added that Mount Kenya region will vote as a bloc to protect its political interests.
Gachagua also urged members of the Luo community to back the United Opposition, warning that the current administration may betray them if re-elected.
Additionally, he accused the government of attempting to restrict his movement by using police officers to disrupt his meetings across the country.
The claims and counterclaims have continued to fuel political debate as the country edges closer to the 2027 General Election.
